I don't want to pass this month without posting at least something but like I've said before even though being "stable" is great news it is also kind of boring to keep blogging about. So I'll talk about other couple of things. One of course is this "Pinkoctober" shenaganan that's going on this month. Before I was diagnosed Stage IV I never knew that out of the funds raised during Breast Cancer Awareness Month a mere 1-2% goes to stage IV research and only 1 day (October 13th) is slotted to bring awareness to this stage of the disease which is the one that 40,000 people die each year in the U.S.  So, while I am not entirely against the "pink-out" I also think that more money, resources and awareness needs to be focused on research and studies and help for stage IV breast cancer. And it seems that at least this year there's been a shift. Both Today Show and Good Morning America dedicated segments of their show to Stage IV patients during their Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. This is a start but a lot more needs to be done. Another aspect of this issue, is the commercialization of the campaign. Businesses using this month to promote their products under the disguise of raising funds for breast cancer. This needs to stop as it is unjust. Also the sexist innuendos used by some advertising firms is demeaning, breast cancer is not about sex or boobs it is about a disease that kills people. If you want to donate to Stage IV you can go to METAvivor.org this organization is one of the few ones that are totally dedicated to supporting Stage IV breast cancer.

The other thing I would like to talk about is on a personal note. Next week, October 17th I'll be leaving to go to Mexico to visit my parents who are 81 (mom) and 82 (dad) and whom I haven;t seen in 4 years. This is particularly emotional for both them and I, because last year when I was in the hospital we didn't know if I would be alive and well enough to travel and be able to see them again before one of us departed from this earth. Thank God for this opportunity and I am so excited I can't wait!

I will continue blogging even though I haven't been able to attract readers but I never thought I would, this is mostly a record keeping device for me. But if you read this please leave a comment or suggestion I would really appreciate it.

Till next time,
Aurora
