So last Wednesday I got a call from my oncologist, asking me to call her office and make an appointment to discuss the recent CT scan, she said it was urgent. When I heard this first message it was too late to call, so I waited until yesterday, I played "phone tag" with her all day, until she finally left a voice mail saying to go to the E.R. She said the CT scan had showed fracture in a bone and to go to the E.R. immediately. Coincidentally, I was a couple of blocks from the hospital when I got heard her voicemail so I went straight there. I was admitted last night and discharged this afternoon. False Alarm. My orthopedic surgeon read the CT scan and took more x-rays and said everything is in place, Thank God! I spent an awful night thinking I was going to have hip replacement and would miss my upcoming trip to Cancun in October to see my parents, this was what concerned me the most. Then in the morning when the ortho said no harm done, I shifted my worry to has the cancer spread somewhere else? and that's why the onco. referred me to the E.R.? Finally around 1 pm the onco herself came to my room and apologized, she said the radiologist who read the CT scan had called her and told her my "hardware" had fracture (from my femur rod) and that's why she sent me to the E.R. She explained that the "hardware" can make the CT's hard to read and the radiologist thought he saw fracture.
Anyway, as far as cancer goes she said I am doing great. She said the same radiologist said that the blastic lesions show improvement after treatment, so Anastrozole/Arimidex still working! Yey! So even though I spent 24 hours in the hospital worrying needlessly the bottom line is I'm NED!!! And to me as a Stage IV patient that's all it matters. Humans make mistakes and doctors and radiologists are human too!
Thank you for all your concern and support.
Aurora
